Special Rules for COVID-19
(in effect until further notice)
- If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms please do not ride the bus: fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea
- Passengers must wear a mask at all times to board and ride the CCPT buses. Mask must be worn properly (covering nose and mouth), or you will be asked to leave the bus
- Please observe proper social distancing; only use available seats/standing area.
Drivers can refuse service to anyone they feel is not following the rules during this national health crisis. The Clinton County Public Transit System is dedicated to the safety of our drivers and the riders of the buses. We appreciate your cooperation to help us ensure that everyone stays healthy and safe.
These rules are designed for passenger and driver safety and for the efficient performance of the CCPT bus system. If you fail to comply with any of the following rules, the bus driver has the authority to ask you to leave the bus and/or deny you admittance to the bus. If you refuse to leave the bus when asked by the driver, the police will be called.
1. BE SAFE.

Use caution around CCPT vehicles. Unlike stopped school buses, NYS law allows drivers to pass public transit vehicles. A driver may not see you if you are trying to cross the road near a large vehicle such as a bus. Please wait for the CCPT bus to depart before crossing the road. CCPT drivers WILL NOT wave you across.

Board the bus in an orderly fashion. Do not push or shove others or walk into the road in front of the bus. Do not hit or bang on the bus. Do not throw anything at the bus.

Be safe. Do not try to move about the bus while it is in motion. Do not unnecessarily distract the driver. This includes unnecessary chatting with the driver or arguing with other passengers. Do not scream, yell, throw anything, or create loud noises. Do not play music unless you are using headphones with the volume low so nobody else will hear it. Do not throw any objects while on the bus or cause any objects or body limbs to go out the bus windows.

Be sanitary. No smoking, eating, or drinking is allowed on the bus. Do not litter on the bus. Do not board the bus if you have exposed wounds; bodily emissions and exposed bodily fluids are not allowed on the bus. Do not perform any personal hygiene tasks while on the bus.

Be courteous. Follow the drivers’ instructions; they are for everyone’s safety. Illegal activities, gambling, disorderly conduct, and vandalism are not allowed on the bus. Respect other passengers. Offensive language is not allowed on the bus. Solicitation of goods or services is not allowed on the bus.
2. TRAVEL LIGHT.

With the exception of foldable strollers, you may not bring more bags or personal items onto the bus than you can fit on your lap while seated. CCPT drivers cannot help load or unload your groceries or other personal items. For safety reasons, bicycles may not be stored inside the bus. We are making every effort to equip all our vehicles with exterior bike racks. Use of our bike racks is free of charge.

Items prohibited: Firearms, knives, and other weapons are not allowed on the bus. Do not bring used syringes, illegal drugs, open containers of alcohol, car batteries, flammable liquids, or any other potentially dangerous item onto the bus. Do not bring trash or items for recycling onto the bus. Except for service animals protected under the ADA, you may not bring an animal onto the bus unless it is kept in a pet carrier small enough to fit in your lap.
- Items protected: Service animals will not be denied admittance onto a transit bus -unless the animal is out of control- and no extra charge will be made for the service animal. Oxygen tanks for personal medical use will be transported, however if the oxygen tank cannot be properly secured per USDOT guidelines, then the passenger may be denied transportation for safety reasons.
3. FARE IS MANDATORY.
- Passengers must pay the appropriate fare EACH time they board the bus, and if they stay on a bus that begins a different route or service. For example, if a passenger paid $2 to board the “Lyon Mountain” route in Cadyville and the passenger wants to stay on the bus when the bus changes to the “Clayburg” route at the Government Center, they must put $2 more into the farebox. Exceptions: A personal care attendant (PCA), someone who is riding the bus for the sole purpose of assisting another passenger who has a disability and who is also traveling together with this other passenger between the same points, will not be charged a fare. Passengers must provide their own PCA. Passengers moving from one bus to another must pay the fare if boarding a new route. Another exception is when a passenger changes buses to stay on the same route because of a driver shift change; in such situations no fare is charged to stay on the same route. The driver ending their shift will radio the driver beginning their shift to let them know about the passengers changing buses but not changing routes. Please have the exact change for passes and fares as the drivers cannot make change
Travel Tips
- Arrive at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive and ensure that you are in a location that is visible to the driver.
- Please keep in mind that the times listed in the schedule are our best estimates; traffic and weather conditions may affect actual times.
- Please have exact change for passes and fares as drivers cannot make change.
- Check the destination sign on the bus or ask the driver to ensure that you have the correct bus.
- Please reserve the front seats for seniors and passengers with disabilities. You may be asked, but not required, to give up your seat as a courtesy to another passenger.
- Parental guidance is strongly recommended for young children.
- Dress for the weather. While we do our best to arrive at pick-ups and destinations according to the schedule; weather, traffic, road conditions, & other unforeseen circumstances can cause delays.
- If you are riding the bus near dawn or dusk or after dark, wear light colored clothing and carry a reflector or flashlight so that the driver can see you.
- Keep a bus schedule with you, at work or at home. They are a valuable reference and throwing them away creates waste.
- CCPT buses do not make right hand turns at red lights and they stop at all railroad crossings.
- We request patrons who use scooters to transfer to a regular seat if they are reasonably able. Scooters are not safe to be sitting on while the bus in motion. This is a request not a requirement and we respect an individual’s right to not transfer from a mobility device.
- Connecting buses will wait 5 minutes if requested. If the connecting bus is going to be more than 5 minutes late, the customer will have to board the next bus going in their direction.

When requested by passengers in advance, bus drivers will stop at non-designated bus stop locations anywhere along a regular route at the closest, safest location that they are able to do so. This means they may not stop directly in front of your requested location.
